3 Reasons Why You Should Quit Your Job Right Now
Is this article for everyone?
Simply No. This is an article for people who always dream about starting their own businesses and becoming entrepreneurs but never had the courage to quit their day jobs. I am pretty sure you brought up the subject of quitting before and got the usual freaked out responses from people:
“Don’t ever quit your job before you find another one.”
“How can you quit your job and start an unstable business.”
“Don’t be a fool. Focus on your career.”
Most people are too scared to get out of their comfort zones, and the reason so many people put you down is that they don’t dare to do that thing you want to do.
3 reasons you should quit your job now
Before I tell you why you should ignore those who put you down and quit your job, you need to see that short video. It’s pretty interesting, by the way.
If you haven’t seen “batman begins” before, let me quickly summarize what was happening in that scene. Bruce (batman) was put in a prison in the desert that had no guards or fences simply because people were trapped underground. The only escape route was a dry well that prisoners had to climb through, but they had to make a deadly jump along the way before they can continue going up. For years people kept trying to climb up and make the jump, but they always fell.
Luckily no one died because they had a rope tied to their waist to catch them if they fell. At the beginning of the scene, Bruce was desperately trying to escape, but he failed. The wise man who was imprisoned gave him Strange advice: to jump without tying a rope on his belt.
Blind Prisoner: How can you move faster than possible, fight longer than possible without the most powerful impulse of the spirit: the fear of death.
Bruce Wayne: I do fear death. I fear dying in here while my city burns, and there’s no one there to save it.
Blind Prisoner: Then do the climb.
Bruce Wayne: How?
Blind Prisoner: As the child did. Without the rope. Then fear will find you again.
Bruce did the jump without the rope and successfully reached the other side. Because he was too afraid, his mind allocated all the needed resources to save his life and keep him alive.
What does all this have to do with quitting your job?
When you quit your job, you will become afraid, find no money to pay your monthly bills and become desperate to start a successful business. And believe it or not, that desperation can be the most powerful source of motivation to help do something significant.
- 1) Job security kills motivation: If you are like most people, not being financially pressured will prevent you from getting motivated enough to fight fiercely for your new business.
- 2) You will procrastinate like hell: If you already have a fixed income, then you might procrastinate for years since making more money won’t be a life or death matter for you. If waiting doesn’t cost you much, then most probably you will keep waiting and wasting precious years of your life. If, however, waiting meant losing more money, then you will find yourself fighting like a man who is about to drown and who is struggling to reach the shore
- 3) You won’t have enough time to create a successful business: If your job is demanding, like most jobs, then you will barely find time to start your own thing or focus on it. The only exception to this rule is a job that doesn’t take much of your time and allows you to work on other things in parallel.
